I have a trip for four planned for late October. Does anyone know the condition of Lake Calcasieu? Is there a lot of stuff floating in the lake? Is it dangerous?
I just got off the phone with Capt. Kirk Stansell and they took a worse hit than from Rita....All of the downstairs was affected but the upstairs quarters are o.k....The phones should be working by tomorrow and they will be up and running again next Tuesday..........Check out their website for more info.......www.hackberryrodandgun.com...............Capt. We had reservation for the Main House at Spicer's. They called me Thursday and said they were cancelling our October reservations. I believe the owner's place took a bad hit and they need it. If the lake is safe we could stay somewhere else. If not, we going to Port O'Connor. If anyone has any more info, please post it. The other couple we're going with would be bringing their new boat and they are understandably worried.
I have a house in Hackberry, I am there now, tearing it down. There are a few people fishing, but until the guides get up and running there is not any real info by someone who is out there every day.
Post Rita fishing was a good as it could be, best in 15 years. I am hoping for the same post Ike. If you come, be careful running in west cove, and close to ANY reef or shoreline. If the birds put on the usual fall show, it should be on!
