Saw a truck heading north on I-45 today had 2 kids in the cab looked to be 2 or 3,(not in car seats) And 2 kids looked to be 4 or 5 in the bed, Dad was back there but it's still against the law, hope they got caught before beltway 8, I don't understand how someone could do that.

I rode to Dallas in the back of my teacher's truck for a school function when I was in highschool. When I was a kid on long trips (and some not so long) I slept in the space between the back seat and rear window. My times have changed haven't they?

For the record I'd never let my kids do either of those things. We've got them strapped in tight, no matter how uncomfortable it looks when they sleep on the road.

My dad had a truck that 3 people could ride in and we had a family of 5.....I rode everywhere in the back of the truck, including long road trips, we'd throw a pillow back there and relax.

I do however agree that it is extremely dangerous and I only allow my kids to ride back there when I am out on property, not on any roads. Kids still get a kick out of riding in the back but I wouldn't let them do it around town.

Couple of years ago I saw a lady in the neighbor hood riding a small motorcycle with her two year old. I stopped her and told her how dangerous it was to do that to her child. Neither were wearing a helmet. The next time I saw her I called the sheriffs office, they came out and talked to her. I am not against motorcycles, I have riden one for years, I also know the risks. She does not realize what even a small fall can do. After that she would give me dirty looks when they drove by.

My dad had a single cab pick-up when we were kids. Me and my brother rode everywhere in the bed of that truck. You had to find a spot and sit still because the bed would get hot in the sun. Looking back, it was dangerous though....

I used to ride all the way from Houston to Freer in the back of Grandpa's truck with a camper on it sleeping on a mattress. Looking back dangerous as hell but made the trip to the lease go by alot quicker.
