We made the dreaded trip to Port A for the 4th of July and I'm not sure I'll be doing that anymore. 2-hour ferry lines and constant traffic were almost too much to bear. I took the opportunity to take my niece and nephew on a boat ride and fishing trip that I had promised some time ago.

Due to our late stay on the beach we didn't hit the water until 11:00 a.m. and by then the boat ramps were easy to launch at but the bays themselves were full of weekend warriors eagerly potlicking and cutting off each others drifts.LOL.. We were destined to due something different.

We picked up some dead bait and rigged ourselves for bottom fishing. We were into fish in no time. Gafftop galore! One after another my kids as well as my niece and nephew cried for help but there cries fell on deaf ears as we pushed them to fight on. The end results were four victorious children with smiles as bid as Texas and the memory of colossal fighting fish.

That afternoon my nephew asked me “Uncle James. Do you know what my favorite day is?” “Today is. Because I caught my biggest fish ever today.” All the traffic, long lines and late nights were suddenly not a bother. Then I found myself being the one smiling from ear to ear and glad that we decided to brave the crowds. Here are some pics from our day on the water.

Slime, Slime, Everywhere Slime! LOL

Sounds like a great day brotha. Glad to see you keeping the priorities straight. Looks like yall had a good dinner but I dont envy the cleanup job you probably had on that ice chest. Sounds like a car wash trip was in order for that! :rotfl: Sure is some good looking water, I forgot what water was supposed to look like. Im almost getting used to the Yoohoo Bay!
Great Job James.

Man! There's some pretty good slimers in that lineup for a couple of little anglers! That's pretty cool, amigo. And y'all found a starfish at the beach? I've never found anything that cool at the beach! It's usually stripped clean by the time I get there.

Glad y'all had a good time despite the crowds.

There are a lot of starfish that wash up in Port A, just be sure to clean it and dry it before you bring it in the house and what ever you do don't forget and leave one in the trunk!
Looks like fun except dealing with the slimers.

We had a great weekend for sure...

We actually did find that starfish washed up on the beach. I've never found anything like that either. We kept it in a bucket of water for a little while and the kids decided to let it go. I was also able to locate a ton of sand dollars about waist deep and showed the kids what to look (feel) for to find them. It was hours and hours of non-stop entertainment.

I do believe we could have had some STAR contenders that day on the water. I will be back down there with my Father-in-Law, nephew Michael, and my son again this weekend and plan of heading back there for a little while to see if we can pick one up that will place. I think the leader in the kids division is a little over 6lbs. and I know at least one of the kids had that beat this past Sunday.

All the hassle and hard work was superseded by the amount of fun everyone had while catching those slimers.
