I have a 2001 model Yamaha 1200GPR. When take off the motor over revs then it catches.
1. Do I need to change the impeller cause its worned?
2. Does the impeller have a pin thats sheared?

Any solution would help.

There are a number of things that can cause the problem you are experiencing. A worn impeller is likely, so is a worn wear ring, the part the impeller fits inside of. You can also be sucking air from an improperly sealed shoe (pump housing) and/or bad seal on impeller drive shaft.

Make sure there is not any small rope, fishing string or anything else around the prop shaftor stuck in the grate.


Did this just start happening or has it been getting gradually worse?

I think something might be stuck in it.
