I made it into Jamaica Beach this morning. There were power crews from Georgia swarming all over JB putting in new poles, stringing lines, replacing transformers, etc.

I talked to one of the guys that stopped to inspect a tranformer and he thought they would be done in JB by Wednesday at the latest.

The new poles they put in along 3005 after Rita, looked good, soooo... soon I think.

I noticed the same thing, have been down to the place 3 times now and they really have been working hard on restoring power to JB. My hat is off to GP they are doing a great job.

The only thing I noticed is that a lot of service lines to the homes are down. So it will take some time for them to inspect each and repair.

In the case of my home I already pulled the meter loop as the wiring has major damage and the last thing I need is a fire to take out what is left of my home.

Hey Jackie and Lisa,
Thanks for the comment, I will rebuild but I figure it is going to be a long road forsure, as I cant seem to get anyone (adjusters, is a new dirty word) to get down there so that I can start on it.

By the way if anyone wants to play pool for free just come to my place and bring your scuba gear as the table is now in the canal! :)

There is a lot of good structure the canals. I think that's my freezer on top of your pool table. :)

On the power, gas and water, I have someone who is supposed to inspect and reconnect everything for me this week. I also understand that they will be replacing all the electric and gas meters before turning everything back on.

That may take a couple of more weeks.

You might call your agent. Mine said I didn't need to wait for the adjuster if I wanted to get started.

They gave us a checklist of everything I need to do to document the damage. Mostly taking pictures and inventorying anything that was lost or damaged. You also want to save samples of things like carpet, shingles, siding etc. so they can determine the grade and type. Also, save reciepts for anything you pay for such as debris removal.

I have a ex brotherinlaw that is an adjuster, he said yes you can start, but if you leave it alone you typically get a little more on the claim. So I figure it is worth the wait. The only things I have done is disconnect the power (meter loop) clean the garage area to park and install a new water shutoff valve. The rest I will leave tell they adjust it.

Very sorry to see the mess made of your house Piledriver. Hope you get it back shipshape soon. How did Nikki's place on the corner fare?
Nikki's place did ok, they lost a lot of vinyl siding, and the bottom is also gone. In fact the storm did such a great job for them, I think they can clean it up with a broom! They also lost their lower decks/dock. Oh and they dont have any stairs!

According to Galveston Office of Emerency Management JB had 30% of its power as of the 20th, so I bet the power is on. JB's website is back up as well. But cant say forsure until tomorrow when I run down there to meet the FEMA adjuster

I won't be surprised if power is back on as far as the lines go, but I'd be suprised if they are letting it flow to the houses yet. half of JB would be on fire,

OK as for the update as of Sunday, All power lines looked great and didnt see a electrical company truck anywhere in the area. With that said I checked and there was no power on at my house and the Law Enforcement Officers were still using a generator at the check point. So I am assuming power is out throughout JB.
