We've seen several of you wonderful folks with dachshund puppies recently. At the beach, at Harbormaster's place in Sargent, etc.
I've never been much of a dog person, I've always liked cuddly cats.
But I fell in love with those dachshunds! They're small, they're friendly, they're lovable... they're KINDA like cats!
So we've recently been looking for a dachshund. Belinda has been helping us look for one, and we've checked out several. Through Belinda's help, yesterday we found JUST the right one for us.
We're adopting from the Pearland Animal Shelter, and we'll pick her up Wednesday evening.
I've named her Molly (I must have had BillyStix on my mind!). She's a red dachshund, about 2 years old. Because she's already grown, we don't have any doubts about what she'll be like when she grows up. She was picked up just 4 days before we saw her.
She's very happy, friendly, and loving. She looks very healthy. She seems to be crate trained. She's confident and seems very at ease with people and cats. Now we just need to get our cat "Baby" to be at ease with her!
The lady at the shelter wouldn't tell me that Molly is a purebred dachshund, because of liability issues; but she said she doesn't see any other breed in her and that all her looks and behaviors are dachshund.
I asked if she's mini or standard. The lady said she thinks Molly is a tweenie. Large mini or small standard, between the two. She probably weighs about 12 pounds. I picked Molly up, and she laid her head on my shoulder - I'm in LOVE!
Over the next few days, Molly will get all her shots, she'll get a microchip injected under her skin to identify her as ours in case she gets lost (perish the thought!), she'll be checked for heartworms, and she'll be spayed.
I can hardly wait.
(I took a photo of her at the shelter yesterday, but couldn't load it up yet. My computer was down for a while and I need to reload the driver for my camera. I'll get to that when I can.)
