I have a 1991 18' Kenner bay boat and I have been thinking about redoing the floors due to soft spots starting to show, and also get the outside repainted, reuppostler <---- misspelled but anyways pretty much try to make the boat to as close as new again. My question is would it be worth it and do any of you guys may roughly know how much money i'm looking at if i decide to do so? All the information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

First what's the engine like?
If you did most of the work yourself it would probably be worth it. If you pay to have it done probably not. IMO
It also depends if you like the Kenner and whether or not you can afford another boat.

well i put a rebuilt 1997 115 Evenrude on it last year cost me 3500 bucks but its not that im particular to keeping my kenner but the wife doesn't see the point in buying a new boat she asks me " Yours doesn't float?" LOL but if i was to do any fixing up it would have to be a little at a time. I think I probably need to find a way to talk the wife into letting me just get a new one. Yeah right, but it's nice thinking about it. Thanks guys

Boat work

It all depends on what you are comfortable with. I fixed the floor in mine boat by myself. The hard work is all the sanding and preperation work. You may find it to be an easy job, just very time consuming. If I would have done the gel coat myself I could have done my shallow runner deck repair job for under $ 1000.00

Older boats that are paid for and are sea worthy are worth the effort. Have you priced most of the new rigs lately, most start around 20K. Seems to much for me since I get to fish all the time (lol). If I fished twice a week or for a living than a boat like this would be fine.

If the repairs are small and simple I would repair them. Selling the boat and not diclosing the problems may come back to haunt later, and if you do disclose it, your asking price gets chopped down in a hurry, becauase a good buyer if interested will find out some cost involved prior to buying.

I redid my shallow runner search under "shallow runner deck repair". Dargel John built a boat on the site with many pictures and post. Some others on the board have also done work, one guide did a great article(s) on it. Search under boating forumn.

Good Luck.

I reworked the floor on a 18.5' CC boat. It took me way longer than I expected, but I work in quality control and nit pick my on work. Get alot of advice and thoroughly plan your work and materials. If you take it to a boat shop and have them look at it for pricing ask them how they would do it. Heck give a boat guy $20 to advise you on exactly what to do and what materials you need. Bag and label everthing that you take off the boat. When you start working with resin get everthing covered up or out of the way.

Good luck, Ken

Deck repair is not all that hard. Just alot of sanding to get it smooth. I would do the deck myself If I were you. Read up on the internet about the materials you will need.

Gel coating the hull is a different story. If you have not done small jobs before I would not attempt it. Is yours too far gone to cut and buff?
