I have an ipod that works perfectly fine with fm lighter plug in the truck.

now plugged on an aux. jack mounted in the top radio box

the radio is in a weather case on the center console

the antenna is a 3' shakespeare lift/lay on t-top.

useing a "dead station", i can quiet the fm signal , but not hear ipod music.

rest of the stereo and regular fm works fine.

are these things that dependant on line of sight for signal thru a closed radio box door or t-top fabric?

stereo does not have the aux direct plug jack...

aux. lighter plug in the top box with the fm transmitter on it.

it has good power and can change the fm stations on the fm cord.

i can't believe these things won't transmit any farther than that????

Try using the 12v plug on the console! The transmitter is not very powerful. Imagine being stuck in rush hour traffic listening to your favorite station till someone next to you turns on thier IPOD tuned into your favorite station.

One way to fix this is to install a amp and use the Aux In on the amp.

How well the FM transmitters work is totally dependant on what real radio stations are present, and how strong they are. In some places like POC with a strong local FM stations on a local tower, it is hard to get an iPod fm transmitter to work at all, regardless of the frequency chosen. They are at best a 50-50 proposition and your location makes all the difference.

Wal-Mart sells a sig-adapter for $25. I've tried to kill the thing and can't. The only time I have had any problems is on the freeway around dig cb's. other than that none what so ever. In the boat or in the truck. It's cheap and worth a stot.
