Get a Penn Battle 2000, look for one online, around $85. Cannot do better at that price point. In my opinion of course

Will last longer than a Shimano

 

I have been using a Shimano Sedona for about 4 years in the salt with no problems.
I would certainly purchase another.

I saw the shimano stradic ci4 for 179. I have one and love it. I would stay away from the FJ its too heavy

 

I was over at Roy's Bait and Tackle over the weekend and was looking at a Stradic 3000 FJ for throwing Corky's for trout and it was a decent price! Looking to start using spectra for inshore fishing and hoping to get much better distance, I think it's a good choice. While at Roy's I looked in the high end reel case and saw the new Stella spinners, the biggest and baddest of the offshore spinners is $1,450!!! Tom - DeepBlueGulf

 

A ball park price range and also the type of fish you are after and you will get good suggestions. Many models of reels come in a variety of sizes.

 

Penn Spinfisher V or Penn Battle - both great reels

 

I have an older stradic that has held up wonderfully. My dad has a pair of symmetrys that are pretty smooth. Can't speak for the penns, although most seem to like them.

 

Well I only say shimano cause I recently built a rod from blank up and took a measurement off a shimano stradic for the reel seat

 

I have 3 Stradic 4000s, they've held up for may years but I bought two Sahara 2500s for around $75 and really like them too. Great on a light action trout rod.

 

Got 2500/3000/4000 Stradic great reels..I only say all Penn reels I have ever owned were v good they just seem heavy..(but I have not had any of the new ones in last 10 y) Daiwa 1300/1600 SS tournament are great too

 

I've got a shimano symetre 4000fi that has been in the salt for 7 years now. Only thing I've ever done is replace the friction ring.

I've got two FJ 4000's and love them $149 on amazon. No problems. Taken in some big reds with it.
