Has anyone else realized just how big this hurricane is? If the eye hitsaround Corpus ormaybe just a little more north. Houston and all of us will still get alot of the bad side of this storm. Just how far out in the edge of this storm is it still real bad? I'm having to go out of town this morning to work and my wife will be here with the kids by herself. I am getting a little worried.

As long as the current track holds you should be fine in Liberty. NWC is just calling for high winds and rain here in League City. Probably no worse than tropical storm force at best....course thats as long as it goes in where they're projecting now.
In any event, I'd have a back up plan.If you don't think they will be safe in your home, and there's no place for them to go...I'd find out where the local shelter is.

Dr. Jeff Masters at Wunderground doesn't paint a good picture for the entire Texas Coast. I think you'll definitely be better off on the south side of the storm but depending on the timing of the fronts, this thing can still hit anywhere from SPI to High Island/Sabine. I don't think they will know until later Wed. or early Thurs. when they do their model runs then.

You also must look at the actual hurricane force wind field. The overall footprint is indeed very large but the core wind field is where the real chaos lies. Im with Capt David, stay in tune but do not go off half cocked . It just creates more pain for the folks that will really feel the full frontal impact.

all right people until you are issued a evacuation order do not leave. let the people go that are directly in harms way.
And who would that be? I understand if you live directly on the coast you probably should start heading inland but as with Rita how are you to know who is in harms way and who is not. I beleive it is still a toss up as to where it will make landfall and this was proven with Rita.

It's too early to say yet.
My thinking is if you are at or above 20' elevation and 5 miles from the coast you should think about sitting tight to keep the evacuation routes open. The rest who are at lower elevations and close to the coast should be given first choice for evacuation. Each family should evaluate their circumstances.

Well, actually...... Ike is supposed to move out very quickly, so I am hoping that we get some raine 4-6 inches and some wind. I live in southern Brazoria county and am seriously considering "riding it out". From the latest projected path looks like the eye wall will go right around us! I know that we will be on the "dirty" side of the storm, but our other alternative is to head to San Antonio.... well thats right in the projected path of the eye. This is a very tough decision to make. My thoughtsand prayers are with everyone that will be catching the brunt of the storm. Keep your head down, and hold on for dear life!
