I have 2 kids age 8&9 that I plan on letting shoot this dove season and for deer season. Will they be required to have a youth hunting license? When I was that age I do not remember having to have a license until I was around 12.

"Youth Hunting License
Type 169:$7
Valid for any person, resident or non-resident, under 17 years of age at the date of license purchase. Exempt from state hunting endorsement requirements, except for Reptile and Amphibian Endorsement. State endorsement exemptions remain valid for the entire license year."
To me, this means anyone under 17 must purchase a youth hunting license.
Saw something in todays paper that I wanted to add. The number one dove hunting violation is to not have the HIP certification. Just make sure that when you get your license or the kids that they do the survey with you and that it is on your new license.
age 9 through 16, you must successfully complete a hunter education course, or you must be accompanied*.
If he has the HE course he can hunt by himself with no supervision. If not he must be accompanied by an adult who has, and the adult is licensed.
