Super high tide and a shallow draft boat. We used to run it all the time when I was a kid but it has gotten REAL shallow. I found a way once to go out into west bay about one hundred yards and hook a 90 degree left turn and go back to the grass. About 30 yards off of the grass hook another 90 degree left and follow the grass all the way to Cold pass. I don't know if that will still work as it has been several years. That shallow spot used to be a good spot to flounder too. We also used to go straight out the cut to deep water in West bay and fish what we called the "shark hole". That was where the big trout were.

I cut through Bastrop into Mud Cut then in to West Bay side on Saturday night.

We went out at high tide and came back in at low tide. Could motor out but had to pole back....

At high tide it was maybe a foot deep and on low tide it was around 4-6 inches. Along the western shore up against the grass is the deepest "channel" if you want to call it that. Once you are 50 ft off the grass, there is a huge sand flat that rarely gets more than 6 inches under water.

Over last couple of years, it has definately gotten shallower over there.

I wasn't stuck that bad... My little fly is pretty shallow! :D

From West Bay, it seemed like you need to go left of the island and then turn left to the shoreline? It seems like the old ICW is completly silted over just past the island.

Anyhow, like ya'll said.. there are other ways and mud cut is just about last on the list.

The way to get around that flat is If your headed to Christmas Point from w Bay approx 20 yards after you pass the house on the left you have to turn hard toward the grass line and run the grass til you pass the old duck blind then you can veer towards the blue bayhouse sitting by itself and get back into the cut. I know it's to late for directions but for the next time and the other 2 coolers who might of not known.
