I don't know too many people that use true satellite dishes anymore, but I am about to get rid of a large (maybe 12' across) motorized satellite dish, a smaller (maybe 4' across) stationary dish, and a couple satellite tuners with remotes. What should I ask for this, and where should I attempt to sell it?

They are somewhat obsolete now. Best used at a camp or out in the boondocks somewhere. My family has been using satellite TV since I was young, because the only alternative in their area was Kingwood Cable, which is expensive and, ummmm, not good. LOL! I'm going to be updating and selling my mother's house, so I am going to get rid of the satellite dishes and plant palm trees where they were! ;)

Is the big dish solid or one of the "mesh" type?

By the way KW Cable is now Cebridge Connections, still expensive but they are getting a little better as far as service goes.

ShadMan - Have had a 10' Mesh C-Band dish in my back yard for @ 18 years and even upgraded to a HDTV receiver @ 3 years ago. Finally gave in last year and changed over to DISH because the cost of C-Band programming was getting so expensive. (Do miss the BIG dish when it rains hard) As the number of C-band customers has dropped over the last years the cost of service/programming has gone up and up and up. Plus C-Band is losing alot of the premium channels.
The only place I have seen a market for used C-band equipment is on Ebay.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions I might be able to help with

I am offering the two satellite dishes, and the tuners with remotes, FREE to any TTMBer who wants them, but you have to take it all. I already have someone interested from Craigslist, but since I am giving them away, I would prefer them go to a TTMBer if anyone wants them. You will need to remove the dishes. One is on the roof of a building and the other is on a pole, so you will need a ladder. These tuners sell on eBay for a pretty hefty sum. If you want 'em, let me know ASAP!

I have seen the gazebo made out of a mesh one too, but hey, I am from East Texas....LOL.

Really it looks good, right next to the washing machine/flower pot combo. J/K, it really looks good.

If it was solid I'd take it off your hands. A buddy of mine made a sweet little gazebo out of one.

This is a different type of dish, and uses a different type of satellite service. Cheaper than DISH with about 10 times the number of channels.
ShadMan,

Remember when Dish network and other start-up satellite companies were becoming known back in the 1990s? I remember living in a small town and window shopping for that $399.00 set-up.

One day my dad saw a 10' satellite in the classifieds, and $600.00 later we had it erected on our lake property. And wouldn't you know, within two weeks a hail storm came along and........get this..... the hail broke that "plastic cover" over that beam-thingie....We never even got to sample its service!

But now knowing that one can get up to 10x the # of channels as DISH Network, I am now interested in repairing it and seeing what all the hype is about...

Shadman , just saw your post. Im a satellite junky, er hobbiest. Ive got a C-band, several Ku-band. I can pick up an unbelievable amount of channels. I like my C-band for the wild feeds. Most networks uplink from a truck in analog to a sat, back to the studio, edit and then broadcast in digital. Mostly C-band is analog, which are disapearing rapidly. Most of those channels are moving to digital (Ku-band). My wife would kill me if I put up another dish, but she sure makes noise when she cant find her channels. I get over 200 channels plus music on a FTA digital receiver with a 1 meter dish. This used to take a 8 -10' dish now I get it digital in a 1 meter dish. All in all I receive over 1000 channels from around the world. Had my choice of which language I wanted to see the World Cup in. My dishfarm looks like NASA command. LOL

Jason - It is FREE, but I believe it is taken.

CentexPW - My mother gets an unGodly amount of channels for about $25/mo. I believe hers is all analog, but it is insane what all you can find on satellite! ;)
