I heard from a reliable source that there could be close to a thousand deaths because of hurricane ike. I know they are still finding bodies in anuhuac areas and Bridge city areas. I heard they are also keeping a pretty tight lip about deaths until all said and done. they are afraid of people blaming people for all these deaths.

I was helping a bud in San Leon clean up his place on 17th when some dudes came up wearing badges saying they had found 24 bodies and 300 are missing. This was 3 days after the storm and the official word is one dead from San Leon but if you see that place for yourself...only one dead??? thats hard to believe.!.!

90% of the shore line of San Leon is wasted up to Bayshore drive.

I think they really need to report more on this to let people know deadly these storms are. If more people saw or heard these reports then not as many would stay.

Wake up ..you are dreaming if you believe that. After Allen, Katrina, and Rita people know and have heard how deadly these storms are. Most people play the denial game, and hope for the best. Some can't go for whatever reason.

I heard that they found close to 200 dead in the Crystal Beach area. Do not take my word for it but it was a fairly reliable source. I do not know why anyone would make that up. This was tragic and my prayers are with all the families who lost loved ones or are still missing loved one.

I have heard no offical body count. Mainly due to the fact that there are people that were last seen/heard from on 09-xx-08 and have not been seen/heard from since.

They will never been seen or heard from again. It is a sad fact that people are gone and no one will ever know where they ended up.

I know of one such individual that was last heard from at 1pm on the day of storm. Based on search efforts, there is no doubt that person is no longer alive nor has his/her body been recovered after attempts to do so.

Sorry to say this but when its all said and done the number is going to be high. And as others have said the missing while be pretty good number as well. I had a guy come into work the other day that worked down at UTMB and he said it was bad.

This guy was in scrubs with a valid UTMB ID so I can only assume he was speaking the truth but he said they have more bodies than they know what to do with, three refrigeration sites and are just keeping them in the deep coolers till they have time and resources to identify them.

****, give this speculation a rest. You guys know nothing. Don't you think if there was a huge body count that family members would be up in arms wondering were their loved ones were? Let the powers that be work the situation out.

Very well put 11andy11. Everyone should just let things take its course. I never understood why people are always concerned about things like a body count. It's just their nature. I do understand that their curiosity gets the best of them, but just let it go.

My take on this is, these storms don't kill people, people kill people. When you take it upon yourself to ride out a storm you put your life on the line. I pray for people that lost everything to one day return to some kind of normal life again. Any material things that I own are not worth my family's well being, and even if a person moves his family to safety and stays, that person is risking putting his or her family through great pain and hardship if they cannot be accounted for, and also puts someone else in danger having to look for you! Just my $.02.

That is something I never understood, people know a big storm is incoming and choose to ride it out. Why? because they do not want to be troubled with having to get out of town and fight the traffic.
My thought? Traffic is a small price to pay in order to protect the ones you love. It just doesn't make sense to hang around to see what happens.
I live in Katy and we got wind for 12- 13 hours and there was damage to my house and property.
It was a nervous ride and I for one will not stay around for anything bigger than Ike.

I would disagree with your statement that "you guys know nothing."

I would agree with your statement "let the powers that be..." It is human nature to know the truth.

At this point, there are NO mass deaths. This includes bodies in deep freeze.

As I posted earlier, there are several poeple that are missing at this time.

I hope and pray they are alive somewhere away from the coast.

Channel 13 reported on the 5:00pm news Galveston officials have a list of 370 missing and unaccounted for elderly and special needs people who may not have evacuated.

They reported Game Wardens have found a female body in a debris pile in Chambers county. County officials are appealing to FEMA for help in searching the debris fields.

If there's anything I've learned over the past few weeks, it is that any statement about the storm that begins with the phrase "I heard", you can pretty much write it off as unsubstantiated, sensational rumor. Yes, a thousand people dying wouldn't at all suprise me. Of course, it'll be a year before that count is nailed down to a 10% margin of error.
