i thought this'd be a neat place to share some of the good stuff that's coming out of Ike's visit. please share how someone else has helped you. you don't have to mention names, just add in a short post.

last night on our tv news i watched a young Texan wading through storm water pulling his boat with him. he was asking people as he waded past them, if they were okay. he was giving rides to elderly and injured people. what an awesome young man.

VJER checked on my house for me and Chunkin' Charlie gave me a report that my camp on Titlum Tatlum MAY still be there. My neighbor Ronnie helped me board up and also checked on my house. A good many people are out there helping each other instead of just lookin' out for number one. That's what we were put here to do, help each other.

I'm really thankful for my neighbor Rob. He had a tree fall on his house and me another neighbor helped remove it and patch up the holes during the eye. It was like a mad rush.
After the storm passed Rob came over and was a tremendous help in cutting up trees and limbs and hauling all the debree to the street with his mule. Neighbor helping neighbor.

My daughter took me and the war department in. Her FIL has brought his travel trailer over for us to use.

Funny: Went to Tyler today to get something from Red Cross food distrubition center. Something to help out with the grocerys we are using. We waited for almost a hour and got 2 cabbages and a small sack of sweet potatoes. That was it, for a week.

After working 18 hours my buddy Bubba and me drove to Sealy at midnight Thursday night to pick up a generator for me from his work. I helped him board up his house and his inlaws. Nelson6500 gave me some helpful tips over the phone on the generator. Quint offered me his travel trailer but when I was there to pick it up Bubba called that our power was back on. My neighbor on the other side of the street has no power so I ran a hose so he will have running water and a extension cord to run his fridge and fans and lights. He still has no power, and my inlaws are here with us, they still have no power in the Mission Bend area. And the owners of the gas station here by my house have me come by at closing time to fill up my vehicles when they have the pumps bagged. They save some for themselves and friends.

I forgot to mention my hosts here in Bastrop. For someone with a tight budget, it means everything to have a place to go where you don't have to pay for it. I've made myself useful by cooking for them, but they've made this as close to a vacation as it could be. Thanks to Tres and Jennifer Womack. They taught and coached me my senior year in high school back in New Orleans and have been my friends and mentors since. They made me want to be a teacher, and now they are my shelter from the storm and aftermath. I gotta thank those others who offered me a place to stay, but I elected to get as far away as I could. Thanks to Haute Pursuit, Texas T (who also helped me prepare the camp for the storm), and Shadman.

I've been helped by just having the knowledge that if I went on this little web site and posted " I need X " one of yall would figure out a way to make it happen.

So far I havent even had to come close to needing that and for that I am eternally grateful.

If anybody needs help in the Galveston county area just ask. I'll help if I can. If you have been helped please just pay it forward.
