Houston to Orlando, need good eats on the way

Ocean Springs:

If evening (or lunch) finds you near Ocean Springs, Miss., don't miss Al Fresco's Italian Bistro on Washington for a great meal. You can dine indoors or out on their spectacular patio with a great fountain...a flame is in the middle and the water pours on it in a constant attempt to extinguish. Great service and food.

Harbor Seafood in New Orleans, great po-boys. Exit Williams Blvd when you are coming into NO and hang a left. Down on the left about a quarter mile. It's kind of a hole in the wall joint, but very good. Been eating there for over ten years. The hot boiled shrimp is good too.

In Lake Charles, take the 210 loop to Ryan Street. As soon as you exit, look right and go to Darrell's. This is a bar, but serves great po-boys. Get the Shrimp Scampi po-boy. You will need a nap after!

I suggest you eat lite it is a boreing drive at best and a full belly will cause sleepyness on that highway!!!!

Save the dinning until your vacation so you can injoy it better!!!!!

I agree with JTburf. I have made that drive 4-5-6 times, cant remember, and it is boring once you hit alabama. Stick with the truckstop burritos and Monster. Keep your speed at about 85+ or you will get run over once in florida, especially on 95S

I used to make that trip 4-5 times a summer when I was working at Disney about twenty years ago.

I can't help much with places to eat but I can recommend an alternate route. If you get bored with I-10, look for 19Alt/27 after Tallahassee. It basically cuts the corner and brings you thru Perry then Ocala and back to 75 into Orlando. The scenery near Ocala is really nice, full of Quarterhorse farms. Most of these are two-lanes so its not like the highway, and I don't know what traffic is like thru there know. I used to save about an hour going this route as opposed going thru Lake City.

Sorry I can't offer any advice, we usually do the stop & rob food or fast food.

Speaking of Mississippi, does anyone know if Aunt Jennie's (just outside of Biloxi) made it thru the storm? Man that was a great place

Actually,

If you go I-10 after the 10-12 split you are going out of your way. If you stay on 12 you miss all of the traffic and mess of NO. I-12 joins back up to I-10 north of the lake just before you get into MS.

I-10 to NOLA is about a 2 hour detour heading East.

Nate, if you still read this check your map and get on 12, it is a major highway (just like 10) and saves you a couple of hours

Eat in Louisiana, drive the rest. Schrimp Po-Boy in N.O. is worth the detour. lol Don't forget to leave the Mayor a tip!
