I did business with both Lowes & HD last week, & through the weekend...The attitude of most employees at the Pearland Lowes was horrible, while the employees at HD were very helpful and almost acted like they liked their jobs...It will prolly take a few trips to learn the layout of HD, but after yesterday I think I'm pretty much done with Pearland Lowes....Not a complaint about the business...Just the deterioration of their employees.

HD targets contractors and Lowes targets home owners.

Here in Copperfield they are literally next to each other. I use both, depending on what I need. In Rockport, I buy mostly from Lowes as they have a much better selection than Pro Build or Ace. Nearest HD is in CC.

I will say customer service is poor as you really have to hunt someone down for any help. That said, once you do find someone (at least in Lowes) they tend to be pretty knowledgeable.

Also use a Lowes credit card for a 5% discount on all purchases.

Lowes and home depot are right next door to each other, as usual. I go to Lowes for 90% of my needs. I also like the layout of Lowes better.

If I'm doing a project, and I want to find someone to explain something or help me out, I go to Home Depot. Here, it just seems like the guys/gals at home depot have a little more knowledge on stuff.

Both of these though come after I visit a True Value hardware store that's a mile from the house. The older guy who owns it is real helpful, he just doesn't always have what I need.

I despise the the HD in Alvin! The Stock is poor at best and grossly under staffed for the level of business. Post Harvey we found ourselves going to Lowes in League City or HD in Lake Jackson for big stuff that the local Mom and Pop did not have or was too far out of touch on the pricing ( $2.25 High on sheet rock per) when you are buying 100+.

We buy a few thousand dollars per month from the box stores and most of it from HD. As far as counting on the personnel in any of those stores to have a functioning brain...forget it.
Most of our materials come from real electrical suppliers but sometimes when running service calls it's just easier to hit a local HD or Lowes.

I shop both in Pearland, it appears to me HD is generally cheaper on most comparable stuff but Lowes has some nicer merchandise when it comes to lighting, cabinets, tile, etc.
I agree with Chuck.

Funny story. I ordered 10 Werner 10' aluminum step ladders for my company from Home Depot since they had the best price. I had them delivered to the store to save on the freight.

So Home Depot sends me an email to let me know the ladders were there so I sent a truck to pick them up. When my driver got there they only had 7 of the 10 ladders I bought because they sold the other three to someone else.

At Lowe's years ago we ordered a particular refrigerator that my wife just had to have. Lowe's called me to let me know the refrigerator was in so my wife and I drove to Rosenberg to pick it up.

Got to Lowe's and as we were pulling into the parking lot my wife says "those people got a refrigerator just like the one that we're getting."

Someone had a new fridge in the back of their truck and were leaving the parking lot. The make and model were on the cardboard container and showed that it was indeed the same as what we were getting.

Got into Lowe's they go to get our new fridge only to have some 5th grade drop out who was running the appliance department tell us that he was sorry someone had just bought the fridge we had ordered but he would be thrilled to order us another.

Haven't been in a Lowe's since lol.

LOL......same thing happened to me, but at Sears, now back in the late 80's in Key West. They had a beautiful kubu (like rattan) living room suite in the KW store, but the display set was already sold, so we ordered a set. "Four to six weeks," we were told. After 6 weeks, we went in and saw a new set on display and asked about ours. Your 5th grade dropout's parents must've been working there, because our stuff wasn't in and the new display set was also "already sold." I was hot to say the least.....went into the store manager, cancelled my $1600+ order and closed out my Sears credit card. We had our furniture the next day. It was that experience that led me to believe that Sears' demise was soon to come. Hmmm...

But I digress....I used to prefer HD a lot over Lowes. But I HATE the Brownsville store and will not go there, unless I have to. First, everything is self checkout, which is fine, unless you have large/ungainly items that are difficult to scan. Then you have to wait for the roaming assistance 5th grader, who may take 15 minutes to get to you. Then you have to remember to bring your own bag(s) because the Brownsville HD does not give bags for the small items....and I can never remember to bring one with me. Port Isabel has a Sutherland's and they're high and don't have near the selection as HD or Lowes. But for small items that don't mean a big cash layout, I'll try there first. It'll cost more, but I'll save the 22 mile driving expense to help offset that. End of rant.

I go to both and I never ask for any assistance or help in either one so I usually have a good experience.

Can't beat the 20% off coupons for Lowes though. I always stock up on Lowes gift cards at 10% off from svm gift cards on ebay or paypal digital gifts. Combined with a coupon, you can save almost 30% on every item, every day.

quick-coupons.com

Of course the coupon website has a coupon code too...VIP40. They used to have a 15 off 50 coupon. Those were the good days.
