While on vacation we took an evening shark trip out of Hilton Head SC on 7/14 with my teenage son and his friend. Water was nice but not much different than Galveston albeit a lot less seaweed. After a 15 minute boat ride we anchored in a 40ft deep channel coming out of the bay about 1 mile offshore. The tide was moving fast as the area gets about 8 foot tide movement. Fished with fresh cut ladyfish filets at varying water depths. Nothing bitting the first 30 minutes but after that it was non stop. First fish was a 3 footer, second fish was 41/2, and the third was a big one. Fish took off and we waited a bit then set the hook and the fight was on. After about 20 minutes the shark was about half way in and the reel broke off the rod. The capitan let off the drag and patched up the reel and then back to fighting. After another 20 minutes we brought in a 7 foot bull shark that was approaching 200 pounds. We put the bait back out and hooked another one that felt almost as large as the third one but it cut the line. Then it was time to go in as it was only a 3 hours trip.
