Ya'll should get a kick out of my Friday nite excursion to check out the high island surf. I'm a native to Houston but had never been up past rollover pass.
The moon was up and so bright when I hit the sand where 87 ends. I follow the board and read jolly rogers posts alot. I guess you guys fish just a couple of miles up the beach from there. Well, I decided to see what was on up the coast from there...boy was I surprised...lol. Ya'll never mentioned that nudist area that's on up the beach...lol. Lots and lots of naked folks just hanging out in the full moon...no pun intended. I thought about trying to get up to sea rim but didn't know how far is was. Driving conditions got worse and worse the farther north I went. I end up finding a guy just buried in his old 2 wheel drive Ford p/u. It seems that there are like mud boggs between the sandbars up there. The tide was ultra low and these mud boggs were everywhere. I didn't have a tow strap to help this guy, so I headed up the beach to some lights I could see. It ended up being a petroleum pumping station, some company called Valstar or something. Luckily there was a guy manning the place and I used the phone to call a tow truck. There is actually a salt dome right there that is storage for the strategic oil reserve. Anyway, I head back and tell the guy that someone will be out to help him. I decide to head back south and find a guy about a mile away in the same mud bogg. He's in a 02' F150 4x4
but has a tow strap and my little 4x4 blazer pulled him right out...This guy wanted to give me all his cash and was dancing a jig to be out!!! lol. I told him forget the cash and go pull out the other guy instead. Needless to say....I high tailed it out of there and headed out the the pass. I think I'll try that high island thing again in the daylight. Caught lots of small sharks at san luis on sat. they were so thick!!! Matter of fact....marinated black tip will be on the grill tonight! Great weekend weather run were having!!!!
