My father in law gave me this reel and I know absolutely nothing about vintage reels. It looks like it has never been uses and has all original components. It is stamped "No. 1970 President by Shakespeare Stainless Steel Model GD" Any help? Thanks in advance.

Looks like it's in good condition. I have a vintage reel price book, but it's at my house in Houston and I'm in SA. If I were you, I would stop by a Borders Book store and look it up in a price guide.
Cool. You might want to give Johnny Smith down in San Leon a call. He is the 'real old man or old reel man' as Bob jr. always called him. I don't have his number handy but you can call the 18th St. Pier (281-339-2600) and if he isn't there I'm sure they'll give you his number. If that doesn't work call Capt. Wayne in the morning and he'll have the number. For that matter Capt. Wayne knows a whole bunch about vintage reels also.
That model was one of my Dad's favorites back in the day.

Ebay is a good indicator of what things like this are worth and they have one similar to yours on there now.

However, if I were you I'd keep it and display it as they're not making any more of them.

Thanks for the info guys. I am keeping it, just trying to trace the history.
