I am looking for information on "Carolina Skiff" style boats that may be available either commercial or custom.

Being very familiar with the Carolina Skiff brand of boats, I am curious to see what else is available.

I am in need of a wide interior, flat floor, high gunnel, low maintenance, shallow draft style boat that will run good with a 150 hp motor or less.

Any ideas?

I know quite alot about Carolina Skiffs as I just was on my 2nd big skiff up unitl last week....

I sold her 24'......I already miss her

I have toured the CS factory and they used to be my client.....so any questions on them please shoot me a PM

But if you were looking for something different you might look into this maker of PANGA's
http://www.pangacraft.com/

there is a bunch of different Panga hull makers out there.....but this guy makes them cheap....and in a comercial model too.....my guess is he is out of Mexico or Central America.....

Thanks for the info Stuart & Muddskipper, both boat companies look good, but not what I need. I should have metioned before that I am looking for maximum carrying capacity, flotation, stability and a boat in length from 23-28 foot.

A large boat that would be ideal for carrying handicapped/disabled anglers, as well as equipment like Mules or 4-wheelers, thanks again- Curtiss

Do a seach on deck boats. There were some work boats in Alaska that may fill your bill but I cannot remember the brand. One even had a lift. Dang I hate my memory is gone.

I thought I posted this but I must have not hit the right key. http://www.munsonboats.com/. Of course they are in Alaska and that may be a hindence to you. It is not the ones I was thinking of in my post above. I will think of that one in the middle of the morning two weeks from tomorrow, but then I will not know why I thought of it.

What about something like a big aluminum boat. I think alweld makes a 28 footer that is nearly 8 ft wide. Being aluminum you could have all kinds of stuff built for it. Ramps for wheel chairs etc... Just and idea. Im sure there are other big aluminum boats out there but the alwelds are just the ones i know about.

Those Munson folks are very serious about their boat building. It is a long way to Alaska and I'm not sure if I could get one of them into Pringle Lake.

Now if I was looking for a aqua-Brinks boat, I would definately get with them. Thanks for the link Grayfish, keep 'em coming- Curtiss

My mistake. I thought Munson was in Homer, Alaska. They are in Burlington, Washington.

There is a boat called a Bayou Runner that I have seen that is like a Carolina Skiff but with a tunnel. I think they are made in Louisiana. Raymond Cox in Matagorda had a couple of them. Possibly made by Avenger in Louisiana.

Then there is Sundance Skiffs and Jones Brothers Bateaus but I don't know much about them.

Sundance makes a nice skiff, but I'm looking for more of a workhorse. I've looked into the Jones Bros. boats and they look great, but they are proud of their boats.

I've tried finding info on the Avenger Boats, but think they are no longer producing. A couple of guides down this way (Kris Kelley & James Cunningham) have been running them for years and if San Antonio Bay can't tear 'em up then they must have been made well.

I've had my eyes on the CS 2790 DLX boat for several years now. With the optional drop-in decks and available consoles, the only limit is one's imagination or in my case the check book. I would like to rig one with dual consoles, leaving a huge walkway from the bow to the stern, probably sounds strange, but a customer has a Transcat rigged like this and it works great.

Aluminum could definately work, I see what you mean about custom rigging and such. I've been concentrating on glass boats mostly, but I'll be looking at all options before I buy.

I currently have an excellent 150 Vmax to drop on a jackplate, just need to figure out what the jackplate will be affixed to. I've even considered selling the motor and going all new, but with the economy being stressed the way it is, keeping the monthly payment as low as possible is gaining in popularity more each day.

Thanks to all for ideas/information, keep 'em coming- Curtiss

I dont think you would have any problems getting a big aluminum boat into pringle. With a boat that wide you would have a lot of displacement should be no problem running shallow.
