My heater is working sporadically. Most common theme is it will blow hot air when I am moving. Hit a stop light and it sometime just blows cold air.

Thermostat? Heater core?

Any ideas or experiences with this problem?:help:

Make sure she is full of radiator fluid. If not, she might not be pumpin enough water when at idle to flow into the core. If it was the core, you would smell it inside.

Any pudles under it?

Listen pal, if you are going to insult my intelligence by posting up the basic steps that any numbskull would know to check for first, save your keystrokes.

BTW: The fluid was low, I'll add some when she cools down.

Green to you

If I nail the interview I have tomorrow, I might do just that. Until then, I'm adding some 50/50 mix Prestone. :)

If the coolant doesn't fix your problem you either have a hole in a vacuum hose that operates the blend door or your blend door acuator has a leaking diaphragm. I see you have an F250. If it is a diesel you could have vacuum pump trouble. Diesels don't generate vacuum like a gas engine does and requires a pump. Usually you will notice that it takes more pressure to apply your brakes if the pump is bad because it also supplies vacuum tou your brake booster. Hope this helps.

Ok since you guys diagnosed 8's problem, I have a question for you. When I turned on my heater my temp gauge rose from 210 to approx 230-235. Then I tuned it off and it kept surging up to 235 and back to 210 for the next 10-15 minutes. It has done this twice, both times I turned on my heater this past week. When I run it now w/o the heater turned on it runs at it's normal 210 temp. Any ideas?

My work truck is doing the same thing. It's an 06 F350 mine was low on coolant and since we arent allowed to even add cooloant to them we have to go to the county garage. the mechanics there decided it needed to go to the dealership. That was Monday.... the stealership called today to tell me they just now got my truck to the diesel shop and hopefully they could get it into the shop to look at on Wednesday of next week. 8 since you live in mansfield I will tell you.... Stay away from 5 star ford in north richland hills they will keep your truck for a month before you get it fixexd!!
