Putting the new 23 Haynie Super Cat through shallow water trials; keyslot transom; cat hull; 10" setback/jack; trim tabs; 22P Bravo I; 250 Mercury Pro XS 4 Stroke with torquemaster lower unit. Top end 55 ish, slow burn @ 12 mph.

The vid as fantastic and this boat looks like the missing link to me...I have a few questions:
- You are referring to it as a 23 Supercat, so did they take the 21 Super cat and add some length to the stern to create the key slot?, Or is it a cut down 24 cat?
- Does they key slot solve any porpoising problems that all cats have?
- you have one of those awesome new Merc lightweight 4 stroke Pro XS on the back...so my guess is you can put the new 300 4 stroke Pro XS on this rig?

Great new design!!

No sir, they took a foot or so out of the center of the 24 Cat which had the keyslot in it. I had the 7th hull out of the mold on the 24 cat and I can assure you performance is far superior to the 24.

We've run the Haynie 24 Cats, think we had 3 of them; we're on our 4th 23 Cat's and none of them have trim tabs and we haven't had any porpoising issues after "burn time adjustments". Trialing this boat was the first time I'd run one with trim tabs and it was impressive and a luxury we're not used to. We don't like to put anything on the rear end of a boat that we don't absolutely have to have in order to maintain top speed ability.

This boat has the 250 Pro XS 4 stroke with the super charger/torquemaster. The latest product release will be absent the super charger which everyone feels is a fuel economy plus. All of the Pro XS 4 Strokes will be torquemaster.

The peculiar thing about boat design is the inability to move much beyond top speed of the "matched hull/motor" so I'm not sure if adding another 50HP will get you much extra in the way of speed. We are hearing very positive words about the 225 6 jug motor rather than the 8 cylinder.

Great new design!!
I was absolutely blown away by the torque and hole shot. We are having conversations at the moment in preparation for the new motors and how we do everything regarding blast off with clients in the boat. It will be very important to have everyone completely seated and secured prior to hole shot or there will be problems with folks going out the back of the boat. It's absolutely that different.

Cut & Jump

I don't know if you noticed on the cut and jump hole shots but every one of them had a huge hump of water engulfing the motor to just beneath the cowling. The circle we burned in Shoalwater was just that, and unnecessary. It was on plane in 5' of the initial hole shot. The bite is crazy.

Prop Burn

This boat has some hours on it and after what we put it through the other day the Bravo I looked brand new. We've had bad setups and burned Bravo I's to the ground in 3 outings. So this is quite amazing.

That's about all I know. Get with Mike at Haynie Boats for Blueprinting the setup and Bryan or Scott at Chris Marine can get you in the hopper as soon as possible.

Spoke to Kyle @ Haynies....

Yep it's a Verado, 250 w/super charger! We were moving pretty quick and I really didn't pay too much attention. We were talking about all the new Pro XS 4 Strokes coming out, 6 and 8 cylinders and I got my wiring crossed. Plus, ha, we just ordered the 250 Pro Xs 4 Stroke. Certainly not trying to be deceptive, just moving a little to quick.

If you were interested in the Verado perormance, ha, I guess there you have it. We're hearing great stuff on the 6 cylinder 225's as well.

Looks like a verado to me, and a 300 at that, not a 250. Don't see the oil door on the cowling. Good try though.

What's funny though is how every guide who gets a new boat boasts about how it's the best boat they've ever had lol.

Is it really possible for that boat to behave much differently than the 24? I doubt it. How much shorter is it? 12"?

Have to earn that discount somehow, right?

Something special about "the set up", when you get "that special boat" and it's set up right, it's very exciting. Probably along the lines of the countless hours dialing in a race car. This is TRP jump out with out the BS and twice the speed, smooth and solid rig.

No worries. It looks impressive! Throttle response looks awesome. I don’t have the confidence or skill level to run that skinny water, it was fun to watch. What differences have you noticed with the older style 23’ cat and the newer slotted (keystone)transom 23’? I always hear about the 24’ vs the 23’, but the older 23’(straight transom) vs the newer models that have the raised and slotted or keyed transom really has me intrigued..

Good observation, 23 just seems to be the sweet spot however when it comes to overall performance and marketability. Coastal boat designers have fallen into traps pushing the length envelope (which feels good) but ends up meeting resistance among the average consumer that has to deal with trying to store that beast.

As mentioned, I had the 7th hull out of the mold on the 24 cat and ran three of them before switching to the 23's. We're oil burners though, Pro XS 2 Strokers.

Sorry for the delay bud, been up to my ears in lizards...:)

Thanks "Beach", I guess when you got it, "you bring it" and Haynie and Chris Coulter continue to innovate and push the envelope. The team synergies between Haynie and Mercury Marine have been so important! I know Mercury Marine is just buried in orders on the new platform. We usually order motors in August and see them arriving in late September/October going in service around March. We ordered our new PRO XS 250 4 Stroke and won't see it until March which is as soon as they can hopefully deliver.

Castaway Lodge was the first to 96 the riser and 72 gallon tank (pioneers/guinea pigs...LOL). We got with Mike on eliminating the riser on the 23's for our operation and he recommended dropping a 40 "glassed-in" into the floor. If we can't do our job on 40, we ain't gonna make it in this business..:). So that's what we did and the usability for our operation and then proven in the subsequent resale market on a riser-less Haynie has been "hotcakes". Ergo - 23 Super Cat with 40 in the floor. I think you'll see more and more of them on all models, just makes sense unless you're a full throttle tournament guy.
