WILMINGTON, Del. July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- In honor of "America's Favorite Sandwich," DuPont, the maker of DuPont(TM) Teflon® non-stick coatings, is launching The Search for the Greatest Grilled Cheese Sandwich in America. The recipe contest will reward the top toasties with cash and prizes valued at over $40,000, including $10,000 cash and trips across the country, including Sonoma, Disney World, Napa Valley, Vermont and Wisconsin cheese territory.

"Nothing says comfort like a great home-cooked grilled cheese sandwich. Moms, dads and children across America have been making grilled cheese sandwiches their own special way for generations, and now they can be rewarded for their family recipes," said Christa Kaiser, Teflon® manager for Housewares.

The first 500 entrants will receive a Classic American Sandwich Maker coated with Teflon® non-stick (valued at $30).

The Search for the Greatest Grilled Cheese Sandwich in America will be judged by author and culinary expert Laura Werlin, whose cookbook The All American Cheese and Wine Book was recently awarded a 2004 James Beard Foundation Award. Her newest book, Great Grilled Cheese: 50 Innovative Recipes for Stovetop, Grill and Sandwich Maker will be released in September of 2004.

"Imagination is all you need to transform a good grilled cheese sandwich into a great one. Simply choose your favorite ingredients, combine them with delectable cheeses, and you'll have a tasty and memorable meal," said Werlin.
