Howdy,
That was certainly Ground Zero for this storm. Dam.
Here's a shot of the doppler radar at 4:00 am Saturday morning when Ike came ashore - Bullseye hit on Galveston Bay (enclosed in the eye).
Inside 610 loop Houston was also in the teeth of the monster.

I wonder if they will let anyone rebuild between the highway and the beach.
It is amazing how quickly that island is eroding. I used to drive the highway from High Island to Sabine Pass and now the beach is eroded will inland of the old highway.
