I've always done this and I'm sure Others have as well, but my fishing partner asked if it is legal to use trout/red carcasses in a crab trap. Seems like we ask each other this same question about every two years and I still don't know the answer. I've seen the crabbers haul of the carts at the cleaning table so they must use them. I'll be dang if i can find it on the TP&W site, in fact that has to be the worst, most convoluted menu on the net.

Nope... thats why you see them for sale in bait camps. I was in one camp one morning in the fall and saw just flattie after fresh flattie iced up and for sale. Kinda irks me but the law says they can....

Ask Reel Woman about flounder for sale in Galvatraz....

I thought flounder were considered gamefish since they have a size and bag limit restriction on them.
Unfortunatly no. They can, and still are commercially harvested. And you would be surprised how many Flounder and Croaker end up in Shrimpers nets.

Why croaker as a game fish? Because of Specks? I grew up fishing and have heard this argument for years and the only folks that seem to want croaker listed are folks that don't agree with them being used as Speck bait because of the high catches.

Double B.

Naw. Not too many people around here that are against using Croaker as bait. In fact, I belive that those that think Croaker is some sort of miracle bait, really dont know that much about baitfish. Piggy Perch works just as well.

I've never really been much for using bait although I'll sometimes use cut bait at night for Bullreds and sharks. Every now and then I will buy a pint of live shrimp for the surf but usually only if the water is chocolate milk and the waves are tearing at me. Well, I also use live bait off shore so I'm not anti-bait by any stretch of the imagination.

The "Plugger" said that redfish heads were the best crabtrap baits. But obviously this was many years ago before more strict gamefish laws were enacted. I'm not sure about present day laws as I don't have any traps to bait.:rybka:

Commercial Giggers Are Allowed 60 Fish Per Day...

each. They work hard to get that limit every day of the "run." If discontinued, commercial flounder fishermen would have to catch them some other way.

I have seen flounder stacked up at a cleaning table early in the morning after a night of slamming 'em. Although the guy had a "commercial" license, he said all of them were heading to his freezer. He was no more a commercial fisherman than I am the infamous Zorro. CF?
