I was thinking of trying to get down to either the Galveston or Surfside surf tomorrow as the surf sounds farily flat and the color looks good. Planned on fishing the morning with artificials and then do what I can to help clean up the beach in the afternoon. A couple of questions I am hoping you 2coolers can help me answer.

1)Are galveston beaches and Surfside beaches open? There seems to be some conflicting information on the posts.
2)Can I get over the Galveston causeway/SLP bridge/Surfside bridge without being a Surfside/Galveston resident? In other words, are there still police patrolling?
3)Do you think bacteria/runoff is a problem (maybe C&R only)?

Thanks guys!

West End of G-Town okay to drive to....

Talked to my buddy who own homes in Sea Isle(has power and water) and Isla Del Sol(still no power but has water). He said G-town is open 2 the public. You can drive all the way to SLP from G-Town. But at end of the seawall towards the west end where there's a washout of the road, He told me you have to turn right towards the bay 1st/Moody Gardens area and make you way west around the damage to get back on the main road. Just follow the heavy traffic I presume. Heard they letting the public back into Surfside, and you can fish the Jetties. Goin towards SLP and carbodies, I'm not sure if there is a checkpoint or not. I think SLP bridge is okay, and you can cross that to get into G-town. Doubt you have to pay the $2 toll though. If you are wet wading get your Tentanus, Hep A and B shots up to date. Don't wanna get any of that flesh eating bacteria. High bacteria levels around Galveston area waters.

Yes, Yes, and Yes

There is some helpful info at this link: http://www.gtownsurf.com/
As I understand it, what is left of the Galveston beaches are open to walk on, and on the webcams I have seen a few people fishing from the rock groins. I do not believe people are allowed to swim or wade fish until the bacteria count goes down. It is "worse" as you go farther west along the sea wall.

One report I saw indicates that proper cooking will kill bacteria in/on the fish, but there may be other residues due to all of the leaks and spills. If it was me, catch-and-release is the way to go for another week or so.

Tight lines!
