I donated a trip to the Rotary Foundation in the spring and Sunday was the day for the happy bidder. Weather was choppy in the a.m. but turned slick by 11am.
Water temp was 90-91 degrees all day. Clarity was about 60ft (estimated). Started fishing in 75ft of water around 50 miles. Picked up some quality snapper with the 2 largest being 17 and 22 lbs. Had others around 10-11 lbs. Headed further offshore to fish some rocks in 90ft. Finished out the snapper limit and started caching kings. Made short work of the kings to about 25lbs. It was painfully hot so everyone decided it was time to head in. Stopped at some weeds and picked off a few chicken dolphin on the way in. I'm running the new Yamaha 300's and the port motor started making an all too familiar rattle about 45 miles from shore. Sure have had some bugs in them. Pretty sure it's a piston but time will tell. I should be getting the verdict any minute from my mechanic. (he met me at 10:30 Sunday nite to receive the boat - that's service) BTW, his names is Steve Hicks and he works for Meeks Outboards in Kemah if you need a goood mechanic. I just couldn't believe he went out of his way to help like he did. It appears time is of the essence with the Ska this coming weekend. He says he can have a new powerhead overnited and have me running by Thursday nite. If not, we'll be fishing KevinA's 29 Triton. Nice to have a backup boat like that. Good luck to all the guys in the Ska this weekend. I'll see you there one way of the other.
