After 2hrs of bumper-bumper I finally made it on the island today. I have 2 houses in Galveston. My parents have a home there also.
the first few pics are of my house on Beluche Dr across from Moody Gardens
the fire pics are of 3 houses on Beluche that burned
the others are of the 91st pier and the 61st pier
I also have a house on Crockett behind the SanLuis Hotel. It got minor wind damage but no flooding. I think I will buy a few more in that area next time.

Any reason why they did not cut power to prevent the fires? did the storm surge get there to fast?

That's good Mike, at least you got to see your places. Sorry about the flooding. What caused the houses to burn, do you have any idea?

I have a friend that stayed in a house next to mine during the storm. We didnt get water in our houses until after the EYE passed over. He will never ride out any storm ever again.

Not sure what caused the fires. There were alot in that area... The appts across from Noas Gas station also burned.

Fires started from a dry storm at first(no rain,heavy winds) and transformers going. Maybe a gas line or two exposed also.

That would be my guess.

Thanks for posting those pics. I am sorry for your losses and for those of your neighbors and friends. These pics sure bring home the reality of the devastation that REAL PEOPLE have suffered.

I have wanted to see how the piers made out but these are the first pics I have seen. I sure hope they rebuild the GALVESTON FISHING PIER. There is no number large enough to count the hours I've spent there. Caught some great fish, a few "skunks, and many many happy memories

Man I am so sorry.

I got on the island Monday. When I drove into my parents neighborhood in Gulf Village I saw some neighbors of theirs across the street. They looked like they had been through hell and back. They had to go into the attic and they too will never ride out another hurricane.

BTW, they told the same story about the back side of the storm being the deal breaker.

it was heartbreaking for me to ride around my little rock and see what the gulf finally brought. We've always known the day would come. Turns out the day was 9/13/08.

I'm not judging anyone. I have been there many times. I understand completely and have total sympathy. That's why the *sigh* comment.

His old house on Youpon had 6 feet of water in it.

Redfishr and his family are safe. I spoke to them after the storm and they are doing well. This first pic is of his house in Spanish Grant (galvestons west end)
the second pic is a house I built on the water across from Redfishr.
The new construction on the west end of the Island held up well.
