We did a close in trip out of Galveston wednesday. Never lost sight of Galveston. Great to get out during week with light crowds. We keyed on weed lines and top feeding macks. Beautiful clean green water. Caught a ton of sand sharks, 2 kings, 2 dolphin, 1 tripletail, and a blacktip. Darn sharks are so thick they scare off all the little fish and the snapper are in deep seclusion and hiding.
Attended TPWD reef meeting in Dickinson on tuesday night. It was disappointing that more fishers were not there. I thought with talk of Texas Great barrier reef the fishers would be out in force. A few divers and a shrimper far outnumbered the fishers. TPWD reef plan is to permit 160 acre tracts off all the major Texas ports for private reef sites. Private groups can reef balls or blocks in the area with permission from TPWD. They have some approvals from Tx gov. already and will request final approval later this year. I believe fishers should support this concept for better fishing in Tx waters. We can't get to Alabama or Florida reef development without getting behind this plan.
