Anyone use a foot control trolling motor in salt water? Is the salt water bad on the foot control?

Txredfish,
I have a Minn Kota Riptide saltwater trolling motor. You can use it with either the wireless remote or an optional foot controller. There is a short connector on the back of the housing that the foot pedal plugs into. Works just like a fresh water foot control as I had on my bass boat.

I have used the foot control on my Minn Kota Terrova for two years. So far....so good. I have never used the remote, so I can't compare responsiveness. I really like the "hands free" ability of the foot control. For what it's worth.....a lot of bass anglers say that cable steering is more responsive than electric steering.

The "cable" steering fresh water units are more responsive, but I like the foot control so you can keep fishing without having to use one hand on the remote. My unit has right/left/temp. on/constant on/speed control all adjustable with your foot. Using a foot control takes some getting use to but it was an easy transition for me as I have had foot controlled trolling motors on my bass boats.

I just went to a center console after being in a bass boat for years. I have the freshwater Terrova on my new boat, had an Ultrex on the last one. The electric steer is taking some getting used to, it is not as responsive as cable steer. I ended up screwing the pedal on the Terrova down, it was a bear chasing it around! I have used the remote once while running a boat for a high school bass tournament, worked well for that. After 3 months I am gradually getting used to it.

Update

Well after 6 months the Terrova is off and sold. I will be installing an Ultrex this week. The pedal and I reached a level of understanding, I cussed it and it laughed at me and down the lake we went. However what led to the change was the deploying and stowing of the Terrova. I am to dang old to manually operate it. Great unit, but I'm going back to a rope. An Ulterra was not even a consideration.
