What is the point of gigging flounder, except for filling up the freezer?

Ok

You can't keep anymore than you catch on rod and reel so I'm not sure how its filling up the freezer compared to anything else.

But people do it for the same reason you might catch fish or shoot a deer, for the sport and for the food and just another good reason to be outdoors. It is also really nice when the sun goes down a different world, no potlickers, no jet ski's, no rude boaters, no 100 deg weather, you get the picture.........

The main reason I gig is there are far fewer pot kickers . It not as hot as fishing during the day. And as far as the filling up the freezer part I can catch my limit just as easy as gigging my limit so its a wash as far as how many fish I take .

Have you ever tried it?? For a lot of people it is a completely different experience. We see many reds, crabs, stingrays, drum, large schools of mullet and other bait fish, every time we go. Many people have never been on the bay or any body of water after sunset.
It is just another method of enjoying the outdoors. Such as spotlighting hogs, frog gigging, etc. Gigging is also kid friendly as they don't have to wade out deep or need to know how to cast and work baits.
I have several clients that the only way their wife will fish with them is gigging from a boat.

I personally don't enjoy golf, but I wouldn't say there is no point or bash others that enjoy it. We all enjoy certain types of activities and could care less about others. That's why we are all not the same.

You won't know what your missing until you go. It's so still with the occasional sound of captain Harvey's air motor in the background working the same general grounds as I.. :) but he is absolutely right, my fiancé loves to fish but would rather go for a good night of gigging. It's not easy without a trained eye if you find a deep muddy bottom where they can really bury themselves.

It is more like hunting than fishing. It is great to take the kids x2. You get to see lots of marine life. Don't get sunburned. Not really gonna fill the freezer. Wind, water clarity, or fish just not being there. Mosquitos or bug can be bad. Overall it is fun and I like it.

I like it for the above mentioned reasons and it also helps with your normal rod and reel fishing. You get to see the exact contour of the area your fishing. It increases your knowledge on days that you are fishing mud and grass, you might remember a spot, same thing with sand, etc. Personally I just enjoy the fellowship with friends and family and the smack talk the ensues....
