Has anyone used the Aqua Gem floats, if so are they available within the state, or strictly mail order. In general, do most of you strictly bottomfish or do you find float fishing effective. Thanks

Some people ( I think Skipjack is one ) use floats on their big rods to keep the line from rubbing on the bar. Is this what you are talking about? Skipjack has a pretty neat drawing of it. If this is what you are talking about. I'm sure he would post it here.

Sharky, thanks. Actually, I read about some Australian Shark Fisherman fishing with floats ( to suspend their baits at a certain depth ) and was wondering if anyone here uses them. I was curious, as I thought everyone pretty much bottom fished. It does seem like with all the Sharks I see from the kayak, near the surface, it might be a good idea to use a float.

I would also like info. on the floats used to keep lines from rubbing on the bars if anyone has any.

I personally don't think floats ( suspending baits) would work very well in the surf. I think that your baits would be in Mexico before you knew it. LOL. Skipjack had a post on another board about floats with a real cool drawing and detailed instructions. I'll drop him a line and see if he will post it up here for you. I'm sure he will.

Lou uses a float when he puts out a chicken for bait.

That wasn't a typo either folks. Lou sometimes catches sharks on a fresh whole chicken. You have to suspend it off bottom or the crabs will clean it up quick, but it works pretty well.
