I moved to Rockport in year 2005. Catching a limit of reds (3), trout (10) and drum (5) was easy. Almost too easy. Back then trout limit was 10 trout over 15 inches. Fishing has really declined in the last few years. I have not caught a limit of 3 trout or 5 trout depending on limit at the time. Every once in a while I might catch a limit of 3 reds and few drum Very tough and have to work for them. I think the decline have been due to 2 things - the weather (freezes) and the number of people fishing the area. I don't fish weekends at all due to all the people at the ramps and on the water. On weekends I start a drift and dozen boats might cross the drift. Granted I do not own the water. I may run 5 miles to a spot and some one already fishing the area. So I run elsewhere. I guess with the new trout limit (3), people will target reds and drum more. It is getting to a point it is not worth the the hassle of going out. Waiting at boat ramp, trying to find a place to park, and trying to find a place to fish. Just trying to vent.
