We left Freeport at 7:00am and headed to our snapper/grouper grounds. We fished hard for6-7 hours with only a single bliner to show for it. Couldn't get ANYTHING to take the live piggies we bought and nothing would touch the squid. Finally we headed to FAD1 and set up to troll with one boat already there trolling and another fishing right at the buoy. We made a few passes and Granger changed to a bird. Almost immediately we had a screaming run on my Avet HXW and 15 minutes later the line broke. I later checked and had a guide cracked which cut the line. We moved to deep drop and caught 2 tiles and 2 hakes before it was time to set up for a night time swordfish bite. It was probably 2am and I had laid down for a nap and woke up to Michael fighting a fish. It was a short 15-20 minute fight and we boated the first sword to hit the deck of my boat. We measured it right at 48 inches. A barely legal fish but definitely cool to catch our first swordfish. We reset baits and had no other takes on the 3 long drifts that night. The next morning I awoke to glass calm seas. We headed back our snapper grounds to try to scratch out some bonus fish. This time was different. I marked a huge cloud of bliners and they were all butterballs! After limiting on bliners between the 4 of us, we got our red snapper limit and also boated a nice scamp and a huge porgy. All in all it was a fun trip!
