I have six friends committed to an off shore trip. Everyone is from Houston and looking for something semi local. We want to go out in late July or early August for 12 hrs. None of us have been deep fishing more than once, so we are all rookies looking for a memorable experience. Everyone wants to catch a variety if possible. We are willing to pay and tip nice if we are treated right, but not looking to break anyone's bank. We want to bring our own drinks and food to save a little cash. Does anyone have any suggestions on a charter company or Captain? What questions should we ask while shopping around?

Dave's Deepsea Fishing out of Bridge Harbor in Freeport. His boat is slow but it is immaculately maintained. He's quiet but very good at his job. He once captained one of Captain Elliott's boats I believe. He knows where to find fish in the Freeport area. On a trip with him several years ago our 6 man party had 96 snapper-full limits of reds and the rest were Beeliners plus other fish including a nice Grouper and a Ling.Cost is reasonable/competitive and he always gives you a full day (12 hour) safe trip (unless you want to come in early). We always tip him at least 20% because of the quality of his service and his honesty. Good luck!

if there are 7 fishermen then that changes the choices. most of the charters are 6-pack and to fish seven you are going to have to go with a larger charter co. ie captain elliots or some of the head boat operators....rick

I have booked The Bluefin on more than one occasion for groups larger than 6. Nice and comfortable, you can bring your own food and drinks.

Don't forget to bring some extra discount beer to trade with the shrimpers.
