I would go with 30 to 50 lb tackle. I like graphite reels like Shimano TLD and the Penn GLS series. A Penn GLS 45 holds 475 yards of 40 lb. which is enough capacity. The only fish out there that might spool you is a big marlin or big yellowfin. However, if you chase them with the boat you probably will win that fight.

Although I like the Gti's as a drift rod, I don't like them trolling for larger game because of the level wind. If you want to catch tuna and wahoo you need open tackle due their speed and power. Just my opinion. If you can't afford all that graphite I do recommend Penn Senator 4/0's and 6/0's. The red sided ones are very capable and affordable. We did, however, find most of our Penn Graphites and one of our Shimano 50W's at pawn shops. We've also found some amazing lures for $5 each. You just have to look pretty hard.

a way to communicate to some one on land if you change your plans while offshore or need to notify some one of an emergency. remember that murphy's law applies while offshore and the biggest fish of the day usually hit your smallest rod and reel. take plenty of ice and water.....rick
