i should know, but havent worried about it in a while. if we stay overnight, can we keep double limits of snapper?? thanks. we are headed to the claypiles sat. and stay overnight and was just wondering.

Yes, you can keep a two day limit if you start fishing before Midnight on one day and continue fishing into the next day. However, as the possesion limit is twice the daily bag limit it does not matter if you stay another night the two day bag limit is all you are allowed.

bone, the answer to your question is a resounding no. http://gulfcouncil.org has all the rules on it, and you should print them out and carry them with you, along with a good fish ID book. Unless you are an expert, the reef fish are somewhat hard to tell apart, and the rules are clear once you establish what kind of fish you caught.

Probably one of the most repeated myths about fishing offshore is "double" limits for overnighters. The last round of busts made, started at $1500 when the boats were stopped. That will buy a lot of bait and gas. ;) Double limits only apply to chartered boats, with two professional captains on board. Not only that, the boat needs at least one license, and usually more to do this.
