My son bought this little cannister at the gun show this morning and my husband said he had one just like it when he was a little kid. They think it is from WWII Air Corp. Does anyone know what it is and what it was used for. Thanks.

I've seen them before: drawing a blank on exactly what that was. Seems like it was something pretty benign: holder for first aid kit, gun cleaning kit, toilet paper, whatever. Either that or it's a container to sneak radioactive twinkies into your enemy's convenience store.

Okay, could be wrong here, but 85LS's post jogged some memory: I'm thinking it's the container that they put replacement gas mask filters in: as I remember, they came as a set of two in that canister. (enough for one replacement: there was one on each side of the gas mask.) It'd have to be a pretty small roll of toilet paper.

im sorry-- i have no idea what it is ---but if it is water proof --holding toilet paper is a really good idea--because i have to put mine in a zip lock bag on hunting and fishing trips

The large lid and bottom grip lugs, large screw threads w/rubber seal tells the contents either had to be removed or installed 'when in a hurry' or during little or no light to open/close it to hand vapor/water tight. It's hard to tell the size of this container being the carpet isn't shag. Ballaette, next time you give a test like this, pls place a cup, pin or a 30-06 round next to it so we may get a better idea of its scale. 64mm film reel gun cam storage container as CoastalOutfitters suggested comes the closest to what it is if it's war era surplus. Ordnance fuze would be too long for the diameter given.
