The U.S. Coast Guard rescued an 80-year-old man who had been lost at sea for 10 days.

Rescuers located him after receiving a distress signal from his sail boat.
The man had left Houston ten days ago, and had been heading to Kemah. The Coast Guard found his boat Tuesday afternoon about 115 miles off the coast of Sabine Pass.

I was wondering how long that trip should have taken by sail. I would think no more that a few hours.

"The gentleman said over the radio to us that he was 'unable to fend for himself."
At what point should he had called for help?

i thought he was going from sabine pass to kemah...guess i heard wrong.

i'm guessing he drifted at sail for a long while (kicker motor dead?) and before he knew it he was way the heck out there. ten days is a while...i wonder if they'd been looking for him for many days.

i think the "unable to fend for himself" jargon was maybe just what the coast guard said...who knows what really happened and what was really said.
