Was heading south on 288 this morning and all I saw was vivid flashes on lightening all to the south. Radar had shown some activity before I left he house, but seeing all the horizon lighting up made my decision. Had a disappointed crew. 2nd time I've had to cancel them. Not sure if I made the right call. Radar later in the morning shows it all moving way offshore.

Saturday was alot better. Boxed all our snapper by 11 am withing 30 miles. Then went on the mess with the kingfish. Thank goodness the seas have finally calmed down. Just hope things stay that way for a while.

storms

yea, we went out of galveston and had to run around a huge storm. it got alittle hairy but the grady did fine. made it out 70 miles no problem. will post full report with pics soon. by the way, i'll never own a boat without radar again. it was awesome to dodge the storm and actually know what it was doing. i love it.

We left Saturday so we didn't have any choice Sunday morning but to fish until it was light enough to run.

Amen on using the radar.....we dodged a number of storms because we had it. One guy in a 24' Trophy was at the rig all night with us had to run to POC without it. He followed us around the nastiest cell near us, but was on his own after that....Hope he made it home...he was short on fuel too!

We had the normal over night box...Blackfin, Yellowfin, Aj's, Rainbow Runner, Horse Eyed Jack, Kingfish, Little Tunny and C&R'd a Shark.

BradP,

See ya Friday if the weather co-operates! Any bills that past weekend?

Matagorda Sunday

Left the harbor at 7 with Scott (wishin4fishin) and a couple of buddies.Cleared the jetties and saw two storms, and a nice path between them. Took the opening and spent 12 hours on the water - home at 10PM. Once we got about 40 miles out, it was clear sky, calm seas and HOT with no wind! Ran back in doing 40 in calm seas and clear skys.

Total for the day - 5 dorado all over 12 lbs, a few chickes, three AJ - the biggest about 40#, a bunch of snapper, the biggerst about 10#, an african pompano, and a bunch of other stuff. Will post up pics and a report tonight.

Fished with bg yesterday out of Matagorda and we left before sunrise to try and make it out to deepwater shrimpers and try and catch them culling. The storms changed our mind and we went SW to avoid them. We avoided the storms all day but unfortunately, also avoided most of the fish too. Live and learn. Never made it past 120' of water. Had some great live bait for AJ's but never got out to where we could use them. We got a 23# ling and some decent red and lane snapper and a bunch of rock hinds. Water for us was 1-3' all day and it was confused. The waves were coming at us from all points on the compass. Once we got to within 35nm of the harbor on the way back, it slicked out and we ran open throttle the rest of the way in. This week sure looks good.

Hello Tall1fin
Got a call from Dustin's mom last night after he got home she said she wanted to "Thank you" for taking him he had a ball and will be talking about you and the striper for along time ;) He really had a good time.
He was impressed! :) Maybe next time they can meet David. Bill got a kick out of the other boy. Wetting hooks and catching fish that what it is all about.
:)
