What can you tell me about the Demi-John area? Looking at a place there but don't know much about the area as it relates to fishing. Looks like it's a close run up Bastrop Bayou to the ICW then I could hit Chocolate or West Bay. It looks like Bastrop Bayou is deep enough for what I need. Also any good swimming areas around there? On Google Maps it looks there is some sandy beach in the SW corner of West Bay through Mud Cut. I may need to move quick on this place so would it be crazy for me to do so without scouting the area in my boat first?

My Sis and BIL use to live on Demi-John. They sold and moved to Burleson to be near their daughter and grandchildren. During winter months and low tides, Their boat lift would lower their 17' rig on to a dry mud flat. No way to get out. Under normal tides, no problem getting to the ICW, but running across the bay to Cold Pass and into San Luis pass was very tricky. Channel poorly marked and lined with hard shell reef. Course, if you take time to learn the area, navigating will be doable. If my BIL could do it, anyone can. Oh, and BTW- if you like big swarms of giant mosquitoes that sting like wasps, you will be in Heaven. Come to think of it, stay away!

I can show you two oysters reefs, one in bastrop bayou and one in bastrop bay, I know exactly where they are. After rocking boat off of both oyster bars, you never forget the location. That being said, I run my not so skinny running SeaHunt out of Capt'n Marks and I feel comfortable running all around the west end and bastrop/SLP. Take your time and learn the tracks and don't run bastrop bay on a low low tide unless you know the track well.

I would steer clear on the regular swimming around there.

Lots of old septic systems - that waste goes into the water.... high levels have bad stuff

the fishing can be good in the Fall just like in Chocolate ....

You can have a middle of the road place and be living next to a un-employed meth head .... just saying .... those that have been there know!

Demi John

Almost bought a place there a few years ago. A decent mobile with a big lot and lots of carport, shed, etc. People were friendly and gave me the impression that they looked out for one another. Swimming was not on my to do list but the fishing looked interesting. Quite a run into groceries, beer and such but for a get away it would have been nice. Lots of run down places as well as some very well kept up. If you can get a deal it might be worth it, especially if you have any skills such as carpentry, masonry, etc.

Thanks for all the feedback. We ended up buying the place and met some locals, they seem real nice and I'm looking forward to learning the waterways and catching some fish. Would even like to charter a local guide to learn the area if anyone can recommend a guide that fishes out of Captain Mark's Bastrop Marina.

Sir , you will not be disappointed, been there since 06, are you on the island?
There is not a better place in Texas IMO, go with Randall or Gary Brewer
So many places to fish , not enough time. Swimming pool is great. Never crowded on the water there. I make a 40 mile roundtrip of mud island all tho time. Only been stuck once where I had to wait till tide came up in the middle of the night. Looking forward to meeting you! Cheer!
