I got popped a couple of months ago. Never did figure out where they would have gotten the card number AND 3 digit code on the back. $2600 in camera lenses delivered somewhere in Florida. Closed the account, money credited back by Citibank after a fraud investigation.

Very angry about it. I hate a thief.

Got a call today from Chase, seems someone used my card for some Tatoos to the sum of 500.00.

I told them that must e some good art but it was not on my body and cancel that card I have not used in 2 years.

I have no idea how anyone got the number for that card but it has me worried.

FYI, credit cards that are active but not used count against your credit score.

That's exactly what triggered the call from Amex...that, and the fact that I have carried Amex for over 50 years..LOL...Kinda gave them the idea that I am a looonnng way past the "Dude" phase of my life...

I carry a pre-paid card specifically for this sort of thing. I for one don't want the hassle of the fraudulent card issue, the credit hit issue, and the loss of funds if not reimbursed.

Also, I don't want to see my favorite camera shop or escort service not get paid by the credit card company. Capital One is the worst of the bunch. If you as a vendor get paid with a stolen credit card, they basically tell you tough, bring litigation against us to get paid.

What's worse, we now are getting people who are calling in to their credit card companies and saying the next day that their card was mis-used or stolen so they can write off a nice shopping spree. You run to the mall, make a bunch of purchases across town, then call the card company reporting the theft. Its another type of fraud altogether. Then the stores get stuck with the loss of the product value while the card companies basically laugh us off knowing that litigation to get paid on the value of the card-stolen items is cost prohibitive.

yeah, i'd like to hear that too. experian says the more credit you have available, but unused actually helps your credit because lenders see you as more responsible. so what's up with that?

lenders like CC companies do...but when you go to apply for a mortgage, they do not like to see a very high amount of available credit. They'd rather see a reasonable amount of available credit with a spotless payment history.
