I was out with Brice on Wed and ran across some comm fishermen on a snapper hole that looked like they were using can poles. There were no reels on them and every now and then they would just bend over with a fish on. Anoyone ever seen this before?
there are several shrimp boats that have asian americans on board that use a can for a reel and some have cane poles and some just use handlines. i was impressed with their ability to catch fish with what ever they could find or improvise to fish with....rick
hmmm, were they really commercial fishermen? If they were catching red snapper and keeping them, here's the problem:
1. Commercial Snapper fishing ends the 10th of each month at noon. They must have landed and sold the fish by then.
2. Here is the web page for checking the present quota and news: http://www.gulfcouncil.org/
3. Very good to remember that a commercial fishing vessel with shrimp trawl and/or entaglement net on board is only allowed to keep/possess the recreational bag limit of reef fish.
If you think someone is in violation, turn them in by radio, maybe that will help.
