Did y'all hear about this?

Researchers from Texas A&M University are assessing and conserving artifacts from the Civil War gunboat USS Westfield, which was recovered Nov. 19 as part of a ship channel upgrade by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The $71 million project was initiated to deepen the Texas City Channel along the Texas coast, part of a plan to keep waterways open for navigation.

The Westfield played a significant role in the blockading of the Texas coast as well as in the Battle for Galveston on Jan. 1, 1863 in which the Confederates recaptured the island.

Different one. The other was a Confederate blockade runner. This was a Yankee gunboat. She went aground during the Battle for Galveston and was scuttled by her crew to keep her out of Confederate hands.
