I know this has been asked before but I want to do it one more time. I'm fixing to pull the trigger on a 2008 Chevy 2500 4x4 with the 6.0. It has 3:73 gears and the 6spd auto. What kind of mileage can I expect out of this truck? Not worried about towing so much because I know the mileage will suck. More worried about highway, I have a 50 mile drive to work.

Thanks

I have a 07 with the same set up. I average around 14. Best on the highway with wind at my back has been 16.2. It gets 8-10 towing. I also have at leat 1500 lbs. of tools in mine all the time. My wife has a 07 1500 and it tows the boat just as well as the 2500. Her truck has 342 gears and gets 19-20 on the highway 13 towing the boat, and rides so much better. If I did not have to carry the weight I would have the 1500 myself. Both are great trucks.

The old 6.0 with 4 speed and 4.10 will easily get 14 on the highway so I would think the new 6 speed and 3.73 would do somewhat better. I know my truck runs 2500 rpm at 70 mph and still gets over 14 strictly highway. That is with the 4:10 rearend. Drop back to 65 and 15mpg is attainable.

I have a 2008 Chevy 2500hd crew cab swb z71 and it has 6,500 mile on it I was getting about 12.5 to 13 some what city milage. I never get to check the hwy milage because i am always towing my boat on the highway. I just put a Hypertech programer on it 2 weeks ago and have only run 1 tank of gas thru it since then and it gave me 1.5 mpg better. I am filling up when I leave work today and will post what the last tank got.

I made the big mistake of buying a 2500 4x4 Crew Cab with a 6.0L only to realize the mistake and trade it in 3 months later for a Dmax.

The Truck was a HOG. I got around 12-15mpg. Thats empty and **** compared to my Dmax which gets 17-17.5.

12-15 is still more economical when you figure price of gas vs. diesel, not to mention higher oil and filter changes. Cost of truck is at least 6000.00 higher too.

I drove diesel trucks for 20 years, and I just don't see the economical advantage anymore.

I've had a 6.9 Ford 200,000 miles, a 7.3 Ford 235,000 miles, a 7.3 Powerstroke 90,000 miles and a 05 Duramax 40,000 miles. I love diesels, I just can't justify them anymore.

True, but then you have the inconvenience of more trips to gas station, Less Power, etc.

Then add TOWING into the mix and your really going to suffer with a gasser. probably in the 8-10mpg range or even less where as with a diesel at least you can pull 12-13mpg.

Not to mention you can't get the Allison 6speed with manual behind a gasser :)

The best I ever got towing my camper with the Dmax was 11.5. My 6.0 gets 9, so dollar wise it is still a little cheaper. Yes the diesel has more power, but the gas does a fine job, I can run 70 with either one and that is good enough for me.
