Thinking of going to Chandeleur Islands for Bachelor party this summer. Anyone had any good/bad experiences there recently with certain charters? Which mother ship would you recommend? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Check out Diversion Charters for up to 12 or Southeastern Sportfishing if you have 6 folks or less (boat name Mac’s Bet). Jokas Wild was our go to outfit for many years but Capt George hung it up last year. I wouldn’t hesitate to go with either of the above again.

Most boats are 12 man boats. They have a couple 6 man boats. We went on a newly re-done 6 man boat last year called Sunrise Sport Fishing (boat is the MACIE ANN). We were their first group and it was very nice rig. We had a really good time.

They have a jack up rig/floating hotel "Islander" if you have the boat or boats capable enough of getting out there.

I've done the smaller 6 man boat, the Jack Up rig "Islander" and the Pelican. Personal favorite is the Pelican. It's an 8 man set up. Really cool experience. It's a floating fish camp out there. All three have been great. All the boats I've heard of out there have all been crewed well and nice accommodations A lot of the hands and captains have all worked together on one boat or another. Actually going out to the Pelican next weekend for the New Moon.

*You will want to fill full limit of the boat to share costs.

Last year I went out on the Due South. Had to dodge a waterspout in the middle of the night, crew was terrific though. Food was delicious and you will not loose any weight. Fishing was ok, hard to bring in a trout due to lots of sharks following your lures and your fish, one Bull on the front beach was rather aggressive. Island is mostly all shell so take heavy wade boots. Sand flats on backside of island were off color for sight fishing with my fly rod. Caught several decent reds. Everyone had a good time.
