When I go fishing I normally throw lures to target big trout, which in my area 22”+ is big. Things like big top waters or double D, Mirrodine XL etc. but for whatever reason I always catch these tiny trout in late august and sept. I wonder if the big females don’t tolerate the warm shallow water, or if enough of them quit spawning by now so it’s only juveniles remaining. I have had some success fishing deeper for big ones but it’s not as easy to find them since the deep water is more real estate to fish. But I will say it’s fun to catch any fish on top water. Even these nursery trout. Aggressive little guys!!
