I would stick with the original and buy a float.

 

Yep, nothing I've come across beats the original. They all rust out terribly. I went through a couple knock offs before getting mine and it seems almost impervious to rust. Granted I do take pretty good care of it.

I don't take good care of mine and they stil perform like a champ. A quick rinse 9 trips out of 10. Maybe twice a year, I'll rinse well and then spray some WD-40 on it. The original Boga Grips are bullet proof. I used to keep it on a tether clipped to my belt, but now I use a float.

 

This one is said to be stainless also, I ordered one, someone on here needs to be the guenna pig.

 

Stainless can mean a lot of things. SS410 is said to be "stainless" but still rusts because of the iron content in the alloy.


The original Boga Grip is made from SS316 which has no iron in the alloy matrix. It's very expensive compared to lesser so-called stainless grades. It's also a booger to machine. But it lasts a lifetime and then some.


I purchased my Boga in '95 and it's still going strong without a speck of rust on it. You get what you pay for!

 

I have a knock-off that now has a serious overbite courtesy of a big ling.

 

As with most things, you really do get what you pay for.


I bought mine back when the Fishing Show was still called the Holder Show.



Boga is the way to go.

I have two captain hook boga knockoffs and two real boga grips. The real boga grips are heavier and feels like a better quality. But for $30, the captain hooks are well worth it. I take both with me. I let my dad or anyone else that doesn't have a grip use the fake one. They work well. Many times I'll grab the captain hooks and use it all day thinking it's the real boga grip.
