Actually,

I have witnessed and read that the dominant buck in many areas are already looking to breed. This is if you bow hunt can get a jump on everyone else. A little scent wouldnt hurt in the stand right now for all you bowhunters. They will also be pushing the younger ones away from the feeders. I put some scent out last year to test this theory. 1 lone mature buck came in circled the area early(4:30ish) fed for a min. Never offered a good shot. I still replay it in my mind. He def had some white tail on his mind.

Dominant bucks will be looking, but usually it's the younger guys that start before the does are ready.

I think what you've photoed here is a couple of deer starting to reach social dominace just working on the pecking order. Deer, both does and bucks, are establishing a pecking order year round, using antlers or not ... this doesn't look to serious just yet, or like a fight involving a partner, you'd see the dirt flying if it was ...

Very cool photography by the way ... !!!
